Biography
TOMOKO MATSUOKA
Tomoko MATSUOKA, born in Tokyo, Japan, began from early
childhood her musical education on the piano with her mother. In
1998 she attended harpsichord master classes of M. Sone which
confirmed her strong passion for the harpsichord and its
repertoire, and she continued taking private lessons with M.
Sone and K. Soejima. At age 18, she moved to Italy where she
settled to pursue her study at Scuola Musicale di Milano and
Accademia Internazionale di Musica di Milano.
In 2005 she received her diploma of 'Laboratory of Research of
17th C. Italian Music' with Summa cum Laude at Accademia di
Musica “F. Gaffurio” di Lodi. In 2008 she was graduated with
highest honors in harpsichord performance from Conservatoire of
Music “G. Verdi” in Como, and in 2010 she is completed
post-graduate course. She has studied harpsichord with E.
Fadini, G. Togni, and B. Martin, organ with E. Bellotti,
ensemble with R. Gini, M. Galassi, L. Coppola, B. Cocset, M.
Hantai, and P. Memelsdorf, counterpoint with A. E. Negri and D.
Fratelli, historic dance with D. C. Colonna.
She participated in harpsichord master classes of E. Baiano, O.
Dantone, H. Dreyfus, K. Gilbert, J. W. Jansen, M. Meyerson and
C. Rousset. In 2002 and 2003 she was offered a Belgian State
sponsorship to attend the International Academy for Historic
Keyboard Instruments at Vleeshuis Museum in Antwerp,
participating in master classes with J. v. Immerseel and K.
Verhelst. In 2006 she was awarded a scholarship as
harpsichordist with the baroque orchestra 'Academia Montis
Regalis' in Mondovi.
Tomoko Matsuoka won prizes in several prestigious competitions
including the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges
(2007), the Italian National Harpsichord Competition in Pesaro
(2007) and the International Early Music Contest in Yamanashi,
Japan (2003).
She performs as a soloist and also with chamber music ensembles
in Europe and Japan. She has given concerts in festivals such
as: Festival di Musica Antica a Tsuru, Japan (2003, 2008 with R.
Mameli, 2010 with E. Kirkby), Festival di Musica Antica Musicae
Amoeni Loci in Pesaro (2007), Associazione Antonio il Verso in
Palermo with F. Corti (2008), Altolivenza Festival in Veneto
(2008), Verbania Musica with A. Palmeri (2008), and Settimana
Mozart 2009 in Milan with G. Togni.
In 2006-08, she performed a trilogy of Monteverdi's opera,
leading the orchestra in the chamber music course under M.
Galassi. In 2008 she made her debut in Tokyo at Hamarikyu Asahi
Hall.
In 2008 her first solo CD “16 Sonatas”, dedicated to D.
Scarlatti and published by Genuin, was played on the original
Ruckers harpsichord, conserved in Musee d’Art et d’Histoire de
Neuchatel, Switzerland. Since 2011, Tomoko Matsuoka lives in
Barcelona, Spain, where she studied with Erasmus study program
at Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya.
